Heart of Compassion
A question often asked in situations of crisis is: “Who suffers from this fallen world of natural disasters?”
The answer? All of us, Christians included: “Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies”. Romans 8:23
For those who cast themselves on the mercy of Christ, we have a different perspective on these afflictions; “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.” 2 Corinthians 4:17
CRISIS IN JAPAN
Please pray earnestly for the churches in Japan; their pastors and Christians on the ground trying to provide help and comfort. Prayer is our best first response. Pray also for those trying to investigate the best way for the Global community to respond mercifully with the love of Christ to this calamity in Japan. This does not rule out any further responses on the part of FAC, as we like others continue to seek the best way to be Christ in a broken world.
SPREYDON BAPTIST CHURCH - Christchurch
Please continue to pray for our brothers and sisters in christ, in particular Alan Jamieson (Snr Pastor) and the rest of the staff team, as they continue ministering to those in their city impacted by the devastating February earthquake. FAC has a special relationship with Spreydon going back a number of years. More recently, in 2010, Spreydon sent a team to assist us with our mid year Kid's Day Camp.
Following the earthquake, our FAC church community took up a financial gift offering, with donations forwarded directly to Spreydon for distribution through Spreydon's Community Care programs. FAC leadership are currently in discussion with Pastor Alan, to determine if there are other ways we as a church may be able to support them as they endeavour to help re-build their city; both physically and spiritually. Link to the Spreydon Baptist website for more information about the church and the latest status of their ministry to the city of Christchurch.
IPSWICH CENTRAL CHURCH
A key response by the FAC leadership when Queensland was flooded in early 2011, was to make a connection with a church who were on the ground working to practically support their community in the flood affected areas of the state. We praise God again, for the generosity of his people here at FAC who responded with hearts of compassion, and dug deep to provide financial support to Ipswich Central, the Presbyterian Church in Ipswich.
Our FAC connection with Scott Muir, Senior Minister came about through FAC's previous Snr Minister, Rod Irvine who currently resides in Brisbane. Please continue to pray for Scott and his team; for the work of Ipswich Assist, the emergency relief ministry of their church. Link to the Ipswich Central Church website for more information about the church and the latest status of their ministry to the city Ipswich.
He has showed you O man what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act JUSTLY, to show MERCY and to WALK HUMBLY with your God. Micah 6:8
