After learning Portuguese (more or less), we arrived in Mozambique in July 2002 and stayed until December 2004. We settled into a small town called Cuamba, in the far northern province of Niassa. In 2006, we returned for another four years of service.
We really wanted to see more of Mozambique, so we decided that for our holidays this year, we would travel to the coast: Pemba, Nacala, and Ilha de Mozambique.
I had also bought a new camera to replace the one I broke, and Janice brought it from the States for us. So this holidays has our first photos for quite a few months.
I was invited to a wedding in a local church. Partly (or perhaps mostly) so I could carry the bride and groom in our car. I had planned on just attending, but I ended up having to preach. I hadn't brought a sermon with me, so I jotted down some notes from memory, and preached in portuguese from those. I couldn't have done two years ago!
We came back to Mozambique, spending more time than we anticipated in Malawi, waiting for our car to be fixed. I think I've heard that story somewhere before.
At the end of August, we were in Blantyre to have grommets put into Isabella's ears. On the way home, we spent a few days on the shores of Lake Malawi to relax a little.
One source of interest/stress/activity for me in August was our annual Spiritual Life Conference (SLC), held ath the beginning of August in Melevani near Gurue. Last year, I -- the organisationally-challenged -- somehow managed to volunteer to organise SLC. What was I thinking?? The conference was good -- despite my organisational skills.
